The Cinesphere at Ontario Place in Toronto, Canada is the world’s first permanent IMAX cinema. Directly influenced by Buckminster Fuller’s US Pavilion at Expo ’67 in Montreal, the Cinesphere opened in 1971 and attracted millions of visitors in its first few years. North of Superior (Graeme Ferguson, 1971) was commissioned by the province of Ontario for the Cinesphere and was the first IMAX film to be screened at this site.
